  • In a fit of anger she orders him from the house and stands up to her mother, refusing to back down even when Deborah tries to use force against her

July 29, 1896 - Serendipitous?

  • Edith receives a letter from Mr. Parker offering assistance
  • After consideration, she decides to respond to the letter but considers the motives of Mr. Parker to be suspicious

July 30, 1896 - Desperately Seeking Absolution

  • Penelope confront her father about his lack of forgiveness for her behavior at the end of the school year despite punishing her for it
  • She learns he is sending her brother, Wilbur to look after her at school for the new term and that the action might not have her at its root

July 31, 1896 - Surprise, Surprise

  • Elizabeth arrives home after work and is greeted by her previously unmet sister-in-law, Sylvia
  • They quickly decide they like each other while waiting for her mother and brother to return from a quick shopping trip; when they do, Sylvia discovers her unborn baby is ready to meet everyone as well

  • Charles greets his family at the train station and takes them home, happy to be together again
  • Caroline asks Charles to find a new job and move them away from Primrose College on her father's fears of trouble that his assistant, Edith Bowen might bring

  • At dawn they are marched toward certain death, but in the face of it Edith finds the strength to hold on long enough to be rescued

  • Charles confronts Alexander Carrington to determine just how much the man knows about who is responsible for what happened to Edith and Pollyanna Maple
  • Charles begins to feel that every one knows more than they are saying

  • Will Margaret come to understand the choices her mother has made or will she look down upon her as a failure?

  • Charles joins her search and they encounter a stranger at Ms. Maple's ransacked apartment

  • During the Independence Day fireworks at the harbor, he spots the missing in the crowd for just a moment before they disappear again

  • Her father calls her into his study to explain matters, but it is Edgar who takes her to task

  • A chance newspaper article puts a name to the face in her dreams from school

June 25, 1896 - Pandora's Window

  • Margaret unintentionally overhears a conversation in her father's study
  • She does not understand the significance of most things she has heard but suspects it would be dangerous if anyone knew she had heard

June 26, 1896 - A New Corner

  • Sarah settles into her new home in Denver with her brother and his wife
  • She quickly learns her sister-in-law will not tolerate even a hint of disrespect

  • Sarah visits her father's grave and finds it offers none of the comfort she was looking for

June 11, 1896 - Alterity

  • Edith gets a spanking from Ms. Maple for asking to borrow a key
  • Charles lets her off lightly for not being direct in explaining what kept her

June 12, 1896 - Cigars, Whiskey, and Women

  • Charles meets with Primrose College Dean, Sebastian Steadward
  • Discipline is the topic of discussion and Charles is seeming up to the task

June 13, 1896 - Social Ineptitude

  • Margaret has a mandatory afternoon tea in the garden with her mother and friends
  • The discussion takes a bad turn toward, Margaret's time at Primrose College and she finds she must defend her dreams

  • Charles tutors Wilma successfully and without the use of corporal punishment
  • Caroline seems to be falling in love with Charles all over again despite his harsh treatment of her or is it because of it?

  • Margaret finishes her exams early. Edgar invites her for an afternoon on the beach
  • Margaret and Edgar reveal their feelings for each other after two years of avoiding the subject
